A BRAND CARRIED BY UÇANTAY FROM TRADITION TO THE FUTURE; COSBY
The Candy with Toys industry has a much deeper meaning compared to companies operating in other countries for us because actually our ancestors constituted this sector to the whole world and children! 14th-15th in the Ottoman Empire various fruits have been used in confectionery for centuries. The unit called Helvahâne-i Hassa Ocağı, affiliated to the Ottoman Palace Cuisine, was only interested with sugar and confectionery production. During the festivities held for reasons such as circumcision and marriage, ceremonies called çanak yağması and şeker alayı were held for the people, and it became a tradition to offer sugar, plant and animal figures to the public and especially to children in the şeker alayı. Foreign military attaches and ambassadors were also present at such ceremonies and festivities. Various figures made of hard candy, which were seen and tasted in İstanbul later, were produced in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France, especially German and Austrian masters made this work popular in the United States in the 18th century. Various figures such as flowers, various animals, soldiers, clowns, and Santa Claus, made of this clear and transparent glass candy, attracted the attention of children the most, and this product group began to be called “Clear Toy Candy” over time. During the Ottoman period, candy was offered to the Janissaries and important figures of the state at the ulufe (tip) distribution ceremonies. These candies were thought to symbolize the state with their hard and colorful structure. Soldiers and officials who ate the candies offered at this ceremony were deemed to have proven their loyalty and obedience to the state and made a promise. Unwritten agreements made with various rituals or movements are actually a akit (contract). For this reason, the related sugar was referred to as akide (contract) sugar and has survived to the present day. It is known that the most famous confectionery made in the palace is rahat-i halküm, that is the confectionery called ‘throat reliefer’, or Turkish Delight!
Our industry, known internationally as Candy Toys, is a very key and special category. Due to the shopping mall culture that has become widespread in the world in recent years, toy shops have withdrawn from street retailing. Unfortunately, in many countries, including our country, children and their parents who want to please them do not have access to toys at reasonable prices. The role played by the COSBY brand in the toy candy industry is invaluable, both because its products are offered at reasonable shelf prices and because they are accessible at many sales points, including chain markets and traditional grocery stores.
As the first sector brand included in the Turquality program, COSBY, with our up-to-date technology, with the support of our state and our valuable employees, we produce our organic products such as dried figs and dried apricots, which Turkey has the production superiority, and our products such as Turkish delight and Akide (hard) candy, which are traditional Turkish delicacies. We are working to bring it to the market.
